Bandvagn 202

Constructed in the 1950s by Bolinder-Munktell to address the challenge of providing maintenance and support in difficult terrain (primarily the snow and marshes of Norrland).
The museum's two units was registered in 1963.

The 202E model was manufactured with, among other features, a slightly more powerful engine (+15 hp), heating in the rear unit, and a ZF gearbox.

The Bandvagn 202 (Bv 202) is a tracked all-terrain vehicle with an articulated design, giving it excellent mobility in difficult terrain. The vehicle consists of two permanently connected units, with the engine and gearbox located in the front unit. All four tracks are powered by a driveshaft running from the front to the rear unit. The driver and vehicle commander are seated in the front unit, while up to eight soldiers can be transported in the rear unit.

Tracked vehicles in various models are common in the Swedish military and are used for a range of purposes, including the transportation of soldiers, supplies, and equipment in challenging terrain.

The Bv 202 has an extremely low ground pressure, allowing it to travel across marshes and wetlands without sinking. This makes it an excellent all-terrain vehicle for difficult conditions. The Bv 202 is classified as an oversnow vehicle, meaning it can operate in deep snow without sinking, thanks to its design. Additionally, the vehicle is amphibious, enabling it to be used in water. The downside of the Bv 202 is its low payload capacity (maximum 1000 kg on roads, and up to 800 kg off-road) and its low top speed (30-40 km/h).

No boat? No problem!

Brilliant example of the BV202's all-terrain capability!

The Bv 202 is a wonderfully useful vehicle! In winter, it’s used here for grooming ski tracks.
