40 MM AKAN M/36
40 MM AUTOMATIC GUN M/36
the 40 mm Automatic gun m/36 is one of Bofors' greatest successes.
The Bofors gun has been license-manufactured in many other countries and even pirated in thousands of copies! According to Bofors, it is the most widely produced cannon in the world, with 120,000 units made (of which Bofors produced 2,500).
Internationally, the cannon is known as the Bofors 40 mm L/60, or "The Bofors gun."
The 40 mm AKAN m/36 was designed in the early 1930s and was completed in 1933. With a fire rate of 120 rounds per minute, a maximum range of 10,000 meters, and a maximum altitude of 11,950 meters, it was a very effective weapon. The cannon was mounted on various gun mounts, including twin mounts (with two barrels), depending on its intended use.
The 40 mm AKAN m/36 was used in air defense, the army, and the navy. It was primarily used for anti-aircraft defense, to deter, prevent, and stop attacks from the air.
The 40 mm AKAN m/36 is still in service within the military today.
The museum's example is mounted on a field carriage.
