Memory bank
What memories do you have from the active years of the Kalix Line?
We’re interested in the period from around 1939 to the mid-1990s, so it covers a long span of time.
Some of us experienced the preparedness period during World War II, and many lived through the Cold War.
We are particularly looking for memories from northern Sweden.
Perhaps you accidentally wandered into a military exercise while picking lingonberries, wondered about the massive concrete blocks on either side of the road, or maybe you shivered a lot during your military service up north?
Do you remember the war children, coffee substitutes, and rationing, or perhaps you recall the mosquitoes and field rations when you were out training for combat readiness?
The fear of nuclear war, your parents' concerned comments, how the local gossip centered on the village communist—or were YOU the village communist?
All big and small memories together create a picture of the spirit of that time, and we at the Kalix Line Museum want to preserve it for future generations.
Share your memories with us in whatever way feels best for you.
If you'd prefer to talk rather than write, we can meet and record your story in audio or video.
If you’d rather write, feel free to send us an email or letter. (kalixlinjensberedskapsmuseum@gmail.com, or Marieberg 20, 95292 Kalix)
You are welcome to share your memories anonymously (with just your birth year and gender), or with your name. These memories will be saved digitally and may be published on our website and social media.
We look forward to your contribution to our memory bank!
