TRACKED VEHICLE BV 202A /T
Constructed in the 1950s by Bolinder-Munktell, it was designed to address the challenge of providing maintenance and support in difficult terrain (primarily the snow and marshes of Norrland). Tracked vehicles in various models are common in the Swedish military and are used for a range of purposes, including the transportation of soldiers, supplies, and equipment in challenging terrain.
The museum's unit was registered in 1963.
The Bandvagn 202 (Bv 202) is a tracked all-terrain vehicle with an articulated design, giving it excellent mobility in difficult terrain. The vehicle consists of two permanently connected units, with the engine and gearbox located in the front unit. All four tracks are powered by a driveshaft running from the front to the rear unit. The driver and vehicle commander are seated in the front unit, while up to eight soldiers can be transported in the rear unit.
The Bv 202 has an extremely low ground pressure, allowing it to traverse marshes and wetlands without sinking. This makes it an ideal vehicle for difficult conditions. The Bv 202 is classified as an oversnow vehicle, meaning it can travel through deep snow without sinking, thanks to its design. Additionally, it is amphibious, capable of operating in water. The downsides of the Bv 202 include its low payload capacity and low maximum speed (around 30-40 km/h).
The Bv 202 is a wonderfully useful vehicle! In winter, it’s used here for grooming ski tracks.
