Pirkko Söderholm

During the Finnish Winter War and Continuation War, Sweden took in 72,000 Finnish children with the intention of protecting them from the hardships of war.

Pirkko Söderholm (born in 1937) was sent to Sweden twice during World War II and has shared her memories from those journeys.

Anders Enström

Born just after World War II, Anders grew up in the Kalix Line area, in the shadow of the Cold War.
Here, he shares stories about his upbringing, military service, and the remnants that still exist in the area.

Yvonne och kennert

This time, it’s Yvonne and Kennert sharing their stories! They grew up by the Kalix River, within the active area of the Kalix Line.
During their upbringing, the military presence was a natural part of life, inviting exploration and more or less dangerous adventures.
They belong to the generation whose parents experienced World War II, and through small glimpses and cherished belongings, they gain insight into how life was affected even in Norrbotten.

A grunt's recollections of conscription

Kennert's memories from his military service at I19 during the late 1970s.
Hear him share stories about (among other things) how he transitioned from being cannon fodder to becoming a vehicle driver, the importance of mazarin tarts, towed skiing, and dark tunnels…

Yvonne and Kennert both grew up in the active area of the Kalix Line, where the military presence was a part of everyday life during their upbringing.

Bonus video – how did it the museum come to be?

During a previous interview with Anders, where he shared his memories of his upbringing and military service, we couldn't avoid discussing the museum and how it came to be.
