40 MM LVAKAN M/48 dir

Bofors 40 mm Anti-aircraft autocannon m/48 / Bofors Luftvärnsautomatkanon 40 mm m/48

During the interwar period, air forces developed rapidly, and to counter the growing threat from the skies, there was a need for fast-firing anti-aircraft guns. Bofors was tasked with the project, as foreign models did not meet Sweden's requirements. The result, the 40 mm anti-aircraft cannon model m/36, was completed in 1933, and its further development, the m/48, was ready for use in 1951.

The anti-aircraft automatic cannon m/48 is fully automatic and machine-guided. It has a firing rate of 4 rounds per second and can fire continuously as long as ammunition is supplied.
Riktmaskineriet drivs av fristående elverk, och om elverket saknas kan den även riktas för hand med riktvevar. Kan nå mål på 5000 meters håll, och 3000 meters höjd. Kan även användas mot både mark- och sjömål.

The m/48 automatic cannon can be mounted on ships and vehicles or, as in the museum's example, on a trailer to be attached to a suitable vehicle for transportation.

The lvakan m/48 was also produced under license in other countries and is used by the armed forces of numerous other nations.
